College Basketball Trends: 5 Teams to Bet Over/Under This Season: The college basketball season is back this year. Some college teams tend to do better ATS, while others perform poorly. Some college teams trend to the over while others trend to the under.
Since 2018, the top 5 college teams that trend to the over have a combined average of 64.1% when it comes to going over the total. Meanwhile, in that same stretch of time, the top 5 college teams that trend to the under have a combined average of 65.3% when it comes to going under the total. Here is a look at the top 5 teams to bet over and under in the NCAA.
Best Five Teams to Bet Under:
- Updated: 2/8/21
Fairfield
Fairfield is the best team in the NCAA to bet the under on. Since 2018, their games tend to go under the number 68% of the time. Their record for going under since then is 53-25. Jay Young is the current coach of Fairfield but, he has only been with the team since 2019. Since Young took over the team in 2019, Fairfield games go under the number 70.2% of the time. His record with them is 33-14 to the under as head coach. Despite the coaching change, Fairfield has continued to trend to the under, even more so under this new head coach. This is a team to look for going forward to play under the total.
Merrimack
Going back to just last season. Merrimack’s games tend to go under the number 65.7% of the time. Merrimack became a Division I college basketball team last year, with Joe Gallo serving as their coach since 2017 in Division II.
Akron
Akron was the 4th best team in the NCAA since 2018 for going under the total to start the season, but have fallen off the board since the season has started. Their games have gone under the number 63.8% of the time. Their record is 44-25 to the under since 2018. John Groce is the current head coach of Akron and has been coaching the team since 2017. In his tenure there, Akron games have gone under the total 61.6% of the time, going 61-38 to the under.
UC Riverside
UC Riverside games have gone under the total 64.9% of the time since 2018. Since then, their record is 44-25-1 to the under. Mike Magpayo is the current head coach of this team and was hired this season. This is his first time coaching a major school team, and so far, after two games, he is 6-5 to the under. It’s tough to say what direction he will bring this team in respect to that trend, but, that being said, he was the assistant coach of UC Riverside since 2018 before getting this job as head coach. So, there’s a good chance this trend stays intact going forward.
New Hampshire
New Hampshire games have gone under the total 63.6% of the time since 2018. In that same span, their record is 42-24-1 to the under. Bill Herrion is the current head coach of New Hampshire and has been the coach since 2005. Since he took over the team in 2005, New Hampshire is the 3rd best team in the NCAA for betting the under with a record of 58-34-1. With Herrion as a coach, the team goes under the number 63% of their games. This is another steady trend that shouldn’t be changing drastically anytime soon.

Since he took over, the team is the best in the country at going over the totals with a record of 51-27-2 to the over. Their games are going over 65.4% of the time. This is a team that should continue to trend in that direction going forward.
Oral Roberts

Virginia Military rounds out the top 3 for NCAA teams to bet over the total since 2018. Their games have gone over the number 63.9% of the time since then. Their record is 44-24 to the over since 2018. Dan Earl is the current head coach of the team and has been since 2015. Since he started coaching there in 2015, the team is 72-69 to the over. Their games go over the total about 51.1% of the time with him as the coach. There has been a drastic increase in the last two years, as VMI have trended toward the over at almost a 13% increase. This is a team to watch going forward to see if that trend to the over continues.

Delaware’s games have gone over the number 58.3% of the time in that span. Their record is 42-30-2 to the over since then. Martin Ingelsby is the current head coach of the team and has been since 2016. Their games have gone over the total 55.9% of the time with him as coach. Their record is 71-56-4 to the over with Ingelsby and has been improving in the last 2 years. Since 2018, there has been a 3% decrease for the team going over the total and will most likely continue to trend in that direction.
Samford
Sanford is a team that was atop the list of those to bet over the total the last two years but fell short of the top 5 to start this season. Their record is 44-28-1 to the over since 2018. Bucky McMillan is the current head coach of the team but, he was hired just this year to take over. This is his first time ever coaching a major school team. So far, the team is 7-4-1 to the Under with him as the coach. This will be a team to watch this year and see how this trend unfolds under a new coach.
