Mavericks vs Hawks Pick: Wednesday, February 3rd: The Mavericks are coming off their 6th straight loss, 109-108, at home to the Suns on Monday. The Mavericks dropped their sixth in a row, their ninth loss in their last 11 games and their fourth straight defeat at home. Phoenix’s Devin Booker won the game with a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left. The Mavs had a foul to give and didn’t use it.
Rick Carlisle has not been right this year, and it is very difficult to excuse. Doncic led the Mavericks with 25 points following a slow start in which he scored only two points in the first quarter on free throws. Josh Richardson scored a season-high 24 points, and Kristaps Porzingis added 19. The return of Maxi Kleber after missing 11 games in the health and safety protocols gave Dallas a full roster without any injury designations for the first time since Dec. 4, 2019, a span of 425 days. Porzingis and Kleber started together for the first time this season in the Mavericks’ 12th starting lineup.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is coming off a 107-99 loss at home to the Lakers on Monday night, and have struggled to close out games as of late. Seven of their ten losses are by single digits, Trae Young led the Hawks with 25 points and 16 assists against the Lakers, while John Collins went for 22 and picked up 7 boards. Clint Capela went 8/11 for 16 points of his. It would have been more, but Capela picked up his third foul with 9:57 left in the second quarter and spent the rest of the half on the bench. De’Andre Hunter missed the game after undergoing a non-surgical procedure on his right knee. It’s not known how long the second-year player will be out.
Atlanta also was missing rookie C Onyeka Okongwu (left Achilles soreness). Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee), who is still in a brace, has progressed to passing and free-throw shooting, Kris Dunn (ankle) has been “participating in impact-based rehabilitation activities” and will be reviewed in two weeks,
