San Francisco 49ers vs NY Jets Pick – Week 2 NFL
OddsHQ’s San Francisco 49ers vs NY Jets Pick for NFL Week 2: The classic angle of ‘west coast team playing on east coast time’ has the Niners being a little bit undervalued against the NY Jets in Week 2. However, our sights are set on the total in this game, as the Niners look to blanket Sam Darnold and get out of dodge without any further injuries.

Hangover Tour 2020
The San Francisco 49ers “revenge tour” got off to a rocky start. They lost a messy game to a division rival that they should have won. They came out hot, looking like they’d pick up right where they left off, but then a blocked punt seemed to destroy everything. I’ve already heard some people muttering the words “super bowl hangover”, but let’s can that chatter for the minute. They didn’t look like the juggernaut they were last year, but hitting the panic button after week one is a massive overreaction.
For starters, the Niners played this game without their top 3 receivers. Jalen Hurd tore his ACL in camp, and won’t see the field for a second straight season. Deebo Samuel suffered a ‘Jones’ fracture before training camp, and won’t see the field until at least week 4. Finally, rookie 1st round pick Brandon Aiyuk pulled a hamstring and was shut down just before game time. To make matters worse, All-Pro tight end George Kittle was tackled awkwardly just before halftime and suffered a sprained knee. He returned to the game but was merely a decoy. All that combined with the fact they were playing with their 3rd string center who was brought off the practice squad the morning of the game, it’s easy to understand why they didn’t play so well in week one.
The Perfect Storm
This week they face the New York Jets and their dead-eyed head coach Adam Gase. I can’t understand how Gase remains employed. The Jets game plan, combined with the vacant look in Gase’s eyes, suggests he spent more time burning people with cigarettes than he did studying football this offseason. I feel sorry for Sam Darnold and any player stuck playing for him this season. A perfect spot for the Niners to get back on track, right?
I’m not so certain this game will be a cakewalk like early lines suggest. The Niners just signed Mohammed Sanu, who is familiar with Shanahan’s system and shouldn’t trade long to acclimate to it again. All signs point to Aiyuk being ready for week 2 as well. Having those two in the lineup should help kickstart the offense. However, this squad is simply not the same without George Kittle, and I’m not so certain he’ll be ready to go. Not only is Kittle the best player on the team, but he’s also the emotional leader. His absence will be felt even against a banged-up, dysfunctional Jets squad. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I don’t trust the spread here.
San Francisco 49ers vs NY Jets Pick – Week 2 NFL
I do like this under. It’s now sitting at 42.5 and that looks like a prime spot to jump on. The Niners D still played great last week until they ran out of gas, and got tired of chasing Kyler Murray. Darnold doesn’t have that same escapability. An angry Niners team coming hard at Sam could have him seeing “ghosts”. That combined with a 49ers offense limping into week 2 is a perfect recipe for a low scoring game
Take the under at the best price of 42.5 (-110) via DraftKings
